Writer bio

 

Rob has worked as a writer in theatre, film, television and print media.

He has written a series of comedic adventure fantasy one-person plays (Mung, Tangkupa, and Electric Juju), which played to sold out houses throughout the country.  ‘Electric Juju ‘ is currently being developed into an animated feature film by Seamonster productions and director Matthew Brown with a screenplay by Lauren Beukes(Arthur C. Clarke Award Winning Sci-fi novelist), Sam Wilson, Matthew Brown and Rob van Vuuren based on the original play.

Rob’s zeal for the collaborative writing process is evident in his body of theatre plays penned with other writers: ‘Squadron Marmite’ with Bevan Cullinan, ‘Teatime at the Reykjavik Geezerdome’ with James Cairns and Bevan Cullinan’, ‘Lunar Spasm’ with Bevan Cullinan,  ‘Capgun’ with Bevan Cullinan and Gerhard Marx, ‘Bangalore Torpedo’ with Michelle Willmers and Jose Domingoes, ‘Brother Number’ with James Cairns, ‘Gary the Toothfairy’ with Bevan Cullinan and ‘The Three Little Pigs’ with James Cairns, Tara Notcutt and Albert Pretorius.

Rob also co-wrote ‘The Most Amazing Show’ with Louw Venter, which since its inception at the turn of the century has produced hundreds of original stage shows and 2 seasons of a cult television show.

Rob has also written for; FHM, The Mail and Guardian, The Small Times, Kulula Magazine, Channel 24 and the Daily Voice.
